Definitions

Period: A time range over which spending and income is measured. For example, it could be a length of a month, two weeks, or a week.

Category: A grouping for transactions that is measured within a period. For example, Groceries or Entertainment.

Goal: A target amount of spending or income for a category during a period.

Transaction: An expense or transfer of money. Shown in the app as they are listed on your credit card statement. You can also manually enter transactions.

Account: Your bank account from where you withdraw and deposit money.

Connection: When you connect your financial institution to Accountable, it becomes a connection. Connections automatically provide Accountable with your accounts with their latest balances and transactions.

Members: Anyone who accepted an invite to collaborate on the budget.

Creation

If not invited to a budget, you will be able to create one after signing up for Accountable. If you already have a budget, it is possible to create another one on the Profile tab with the Change Active button.

You will be prompted to create categories, add connections, and invite others to your budget.

Budget Periods

The length of your budget’s period can be configured as either monthly, biweekly, or weekly. The starting date can also be changed, but no periods can start before the 1st of the month the budget was created.
